Jobs for Good Causes- Info Session Thursday!
Hello,
As a graduating senior, you are no doubt trying to decide what you will do next year, or even for the next 5 years. Consider a job with CALPIRG. www.uspirg.org/jobs
My parents met at Cal in 1968, and took part in many of the movements of the day, fighting for free speech and equal rights. When I got to college, I knew I wanted to make a difference like that, but I was frustrated that so many people were just talking about the problems of our generation, instead of actually doing something about them. I decided I had to work with an organization with a track record of results, so I joined CALPIRG. I started as an intern on campus, and now, in my third year on staff after graduating, I can look back on victories like helping 8,000 Cal students register to vote, banning plastic bags in Berkeley, and protecting California’s clean air and global warming laws by defeating Proposition 23. In addition to having a tangible impact on the issues I care about, I’ve made are some of my closest friends through my work, and I’ve learned tons of skills.
If you’re like me, you look around and see too many problems in our country to sit back and do nothing. With CALPIRG, you can actually get paid to take on and solve the problems our country faces; from advocating for policies that will protect consumers from big bank and credit card rip-offs, to educating citizens and students about energy efficiency, and increasing participation in democracy.
CALPIRG is part of a federation of state-based public interest advocacy groups called U.S. PIRG. And working together we have a much greater opportunity to make a difference. We have a 40-year track record of organizing on these issues, and, we’re hiring graduating seniors to jump right in and make a critical impact as a campus organizer or in our fellowship program.
Learn more about both of these positions at www.uspirg.org/jobs.
We will be holding an information session and interviews on campus Thursday, February 28th and Friday, March 1st.
Info session: Thursday, February 28th in 80 Barrows Hall, 6-7 pm
I encourage you to find out more and apply!
