To our respected community members and allies,
It is crucial more than ever that we, as a community, as allies in solidarity, come together to rally in support for California’s Proposition 30 which will keep our public education system as stable as possible. With the threat of more tuition fee hikes and drastic cuts all around the education field ranging from K-14 to public universities, we are in dire need of making sure this proposition has the support needed to pass.
Some Key Points of Prop 30:
– Increases personal income tax of those who make over $250k, $300k, and $500k- Estimates $6.8 billion in annual revenue if passed
– If NOT passed, the University of California projects a 20% mid year tuition hike and $250 million in cuts to higher education- If NOT passed, there will be automatic cuts in education totaling $5.4 billion dollars in the state of California
Prop 30 is necessary if we are to protect our education system and keep it viable for our future generations to come.
Here is how you can help:
During next week’s ASUC Senate meeting on Wednesday, September 12 at 7:00pm, we are asking community members to come out in support of the proposition and to speak on behalf of the bill during public comment.
Through the numbers of our representation, we can make a statement saying that education is a priority and we are here to protect that.
