Asian Law Caucus: Assist Limited English Proficient Voters this Fall

The Asian Law Caucus is a San Francisco based 501c3 legal nonprofit and civil rights advocacy organization that works on various issues such as immigrant rights, housing rights, worker rights, and voting rights. For the upcoming General Election on Tuesday November 6th, 2012, the Asian Law Caucus will be conducting non-partisan poll monitoring throughout Alameda, San Francisco, San Mateo, and Sacramento counties to ensure that language access is provided at poll sites. This language access includes multilingual ballots, proper signage, and the appropriate translational services. The purpose of our poll monitoring efforts is to ensure that Limited English Proficient Voters have access to the ballot on election day. We strongly believe that language barriers should not prevent Limited English Proficient voters from participating in the democratic process, as voting is a fundamental right that is granted to all citizens, regardless of their English abilities. With such large Chinese, Spanish, Tagalog, and Spanish populations in these aforementioned Alameda County, we want to help achieve a more representative democratic process by encouraging these groups to vote.

We are currently looking for volunteers who would be interested in volunteering to assist us with our poll monitoring efforts, on Tuesday, November 6th, from 7AM-11AM. If you are interested, you must attend one of our poll monitor trainings. We are currently in the process of scheduling a training on UC Berkeley campus, and the date, time, and location will be announced shortly

To RSVP for poll monitor training, please fill out the Google Form on this link: http://www.asianlawcaucus.org/programs/voting-rights/voting-rights-poll-monitoring
