A quick summary from the above link:
The Berkeley Academic Senate provides the organizational framework that enables the faculty to exercise its right to participate in the University’s governance. The Berkeley Division formulates positions on campus and systemwide issues through a deliberative process that includes standing committees, Divisional Council, and plenary meetings of its Senate membership. This year, 14 of the Academic Senate committees are calling for 1-2 undergraduate representatives, responsible for representing the undergraduate voice on the issues discussed by the committee they serve on. Any UC Berkeley student is eligible to serve on a committee.
By joining the Academic Senate, you are a part of the Office of the Academic Affairs Vice President (AAVP) within the ASUC. As the AAVP Office, we are excited for a new year in the Academic Senate and wish you the best of luck in completing your applications.

Requirements:

Students serving as Academic Senate Representatives are responsible for the following:
  1. Attending a Representative Orientation during the second week of classes in 2012
  2. Attending each Academic Senate meeting for their committee
  3. Submitting a monthly committee report to the ASUC Senate
  4. Attending a monthly meeting with the ASUC Academic Senate Director and Campus Affairs Vice President
  5. Attending a monthly speaker presentation

If you are able to fulfill these duties, please submit an application above!
